Privacy Policy

Rootstock is built to keep your garden records private by default. The app runs entirely on your iPhone and does not collect, transmit, or store your personal information. There are no Rootstock servers holding your data — there's no account to create and nothing to sign in to.

The short version

No account and no sign-up. Rootstock works fully offline. Everything you record stays on your device. There are no analytics, no tracking, and no ads. We don't sell or share your data — because we never receive it in the first place.

Information we collect

None. Rootstock doesn't ask for your name, email, or any personal details to use the app.

The seeds, plants, observations, photos, and crosses you record are saved in the app's local storage on your device. They are never sent to us, and we have no way to see them.

Your content stays on your device

Everything you create in Rootstock lives in a local database on your iPhone. We have no access to it. If you delete the app, that data is removed with it — apart from any backups you chose to make yourself.

Backups and exports

Rootstock lets you export or back up your garden so your records stay yours. Those files are created only when you ask for them, and they go where you send them — a destination you pick, such as Files, iCloud Drive, or another app via the iOS share sheet. Rootstock never uploads your backups on its own.

Photos

When you attach a photo to a plant or observation, it's stored alongside your records on your device. Rootstock only reaches your camera or photo library at the moment you add a photo, and those images are never uploaded to us.

This website

The getrootstock.app site uses no cookies, no analytics, and no third-party trackers. Your light/dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage, on your device, and is never sent to us. Fonts are served from this site itself, not a third party.

The App Store

Rootstock is distributed through Apple's App Store, and Apple may collect information about downloads and purchases as described in Apple's own privacy policy. That's Apple's process, outside Rootstock's control, and none of it is data we receive.

Children's privacy

Rootstock is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children — because it doesn't collect personal information at all.

What the future holds

Cloud sync and a web app are on the roadmap. If we ever add features that involve storing your data off your device, they will be opt-in, and this policy will be updated to explain exactly what changes — before any such feature is switched on.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Any meaningful change will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
